Which quota ticket confirm first

In the Indian Railways ticketing system, various types of quotas help manage demand across different passenger categories and locations. Each quota has its own priority, influencing which tickets get confirmed first when seats become available. Here’s a breakdown of the main quotas and their confirmation hierarchy:

  1. General Quota (GNWL)

Description: General Quota Waiting List (GNWL) is for passengers booking from the train’s originating station to its final destination. GNWL tickets are given top priority in the confirmation hierarchy.

Confirmation Chances: Since this quota has the highest priority, GNWL waitlisted tickets are usually the first to be confirmed, especially when cancellations occur. Passengers booking under GNWL have the best chance of confirmation.

  1. Remote Location Quota (RLWL)

Description: Remote Location Waiting List (RLWL) applies to passengers boarding from intermediate stations rather than the train’s starting point. RLWL waitlist numbers are station-specific.

Confirmation Chances: RLWL tickets have a lower confirmation chance than GNWL since they only get confirmed if there are cancellations for that specific boarding station. RLWL generally has a lower priority than GNWL.

  1. Pooled Quota (PQWL)

Description: Pooled Quota Waiting List (PQWL) is designated for passengers traveling shorter distances, often covering multiple small stations between major stops.

Confirmation Chances: PQWL has a relatively lower priority compared to GNWL and RLWL and is confirmed only if there are cancellations in the specific pool of stations covered by this quota. This makes PQWL tickets harder to confirm.

  1. Tatkal Quota (TQWL)

Description: Tatkal Quota is meant for last-minute or emergency bookings, available one day before the train’s departure. Tickets booked under this quota fall under the Tatkal Waiting List (TQWL) if the quota is already full.

Confirmation Chances: TQWL generally has lower confirmation chances as it is given the least priority among other quotas. TQWL is confirmed only if there are cancellations within the Tatkal pool. If not confirmed, TQWL tickets are automatically canceled before the journey.

  1. Ladies Quota

Description: Ladies Quota is reserved for female passengers, often applied in sleeper class and second seating categories, especially for women traveling alone or with children.

Confirmation Chances: The Ladies Quota often has fewer seats and is typically given priority over other quotas like TQWL or PQWL, but not over GNWL.

  1. Physically Handicapped Quota (HPWL)

Description: This quota is available specifically for passengers with physical disabilities. Seats are reserved in sleeper and AC classes, with limited availability.

Confirmation Chances: This quota generally receives priority but is restricted to passengers meeting eligibility criteria. The confirmation rate tends to be high, provided seats in the quota are reserved specifically for eligible passengers.

  1. RAC (Reservation Against Cancellation)

Description: RAC tickets offer a partial seat and give passengers the opportunity to get a full seat if there are last-minute cancellations. Passengers with RAC tickets can board the train and share a berth with another RAC passenger until a full berth is allotted.

Confirmation Chances: RAC tickets are usually confirmed faster than waitlisted tickets across other quotas. They have priority over WL but are not counted as a quota per se. If an RAC ticket doesn’t get confirmed, the passenger is at least assured of a shared berth.

Priority Summary:

In general, the order of confirmation priority is as follows:

GNWL (General Quota)

RLWL (Remote Location Quota)

PQWL (Pooled Quota)

TQWL (Tatkal Quota)
